Dec 4, 2016 - Lessons cancelled

Unfortunately, Mother Nature is not cooperating, as there isn’t enough snow at Pocaterra, or any of our other ski locations for that matter, to host lessons this weekend. The snow is finally flying, so keep up your snow dances and fingers crossed for snow deep enough to set tracks for our Dec. 11 ski lesson.

We’ve heard there’s enough snow in Lake Louise, so some of us are heading out there instead. It’s a club optional event with some of our instructors leading a recreational family ski:

  • Start time: Meet between 10:00-10:30 a.m. and ski to noon-ish, Sunday, Dec. 4
  • Meeting location: Great Divide Trail parking lot. It’s on Lake Louise Drive, just past Moraine Lake Road, on the right side.

FAMILY SKI TOUR (DAY BEFORE LOPPET) - CANCELLED

FAMILY SKI TOUR on Saturday, March 1 is

Cancelled

The forecast is for a HIGH of -23°C (feels like -27°C) , even for Ian this is too cold.  We can't seem to catch a break.  The Sunday forecast is looking a little better at -19°C.  Ian will be bringing toe and hand warmers, if you don't have any.  See you at the dinner on Saturday evening!

A fun ski down from Lake Louise to the Hostel.  Everyone can do it and there are no hard uphills.

Meet Ian and Sarah at the Chateau Lake Louise parking lot at 2:00pm (NOT the down hill ski resort area) and ski down to the hostel in time for dinner.
It is a nice 5 km downhill and some people (i.e. Dads) can shuttle back up the hill to pick up the cars.

Here is the description:
Tramline: 4.8 km one way, 195 m elevation downhill (map)
Double trackset
This trail runs from Lake Louise to the valley bottom at a steady 3% decline, following the old grade of the tramline that once connected the train station and the Chateau Lake Louise.

Lake Louise Loppet Weekend Info

Dear Bow Waters Jackrabbits Families,

Again this year we have organized accommodations for the Lake Louise Loppet weekend. This year there are two options:
1.      Lake Louise Hostel
2.      Lake Louise Inn
The details about both are on our wiki site: http://lakelouisepotluck.wikispaces.com/home

If you choose to stay at the Hostel, you will need to sign up for an open room, complete the attached form, and send it to Norma Becker (ntbecker@telus.net). She will need to receive your payment by February 9. Because the number of rooms available to us is limited, we also have a block of rooms at the Lake Louise Inn. You will need to make those reservations yourself by February 12.

As in previous years, we will organize a dinner on the night before the Loppet. You can also sign up for this on the wiki site. (You’ll need to scroll down a bit.) If you’d like to join us, please indicate which members of your family will attend along with their dietary needs. This will enable us to purchase enough supplies to make the food. The cost is $8/person, and children under 6 are free. Please sign up for the dinner by Sunday, February 23.

To add information to the wiki site, simply click on the edit button at the top of the page. Be sure to click “save” when you are done.

Please let Norma or me know if you have any questions.

Registration is closed - again!

Sorry if you missed it, but our 2013/14 registration filled up in record time, and we had an additional 5 children join in Level 1 and Bunnies in the extended registration - a success.  Since our instructors are volunteer parents that have taken the require CCA courses to instruct cross country skiing, we can only take students up to point where the classes are full.  We would love to take more students, but that would mean we need more instructors - if you are interested in becoming an instructor please let us know by emailing Helen, the club covers the cost of the courses.
