Registration is closed - again!

Sorry if you missed it, but our 2013/14 registration filled up in record time, and we had an additional 5 children join in Level 1 and Bunnies in the extended registration - a success.  Since our instructors are volunteer parents that have taken the require CCA courses to instruct cross country skiing, we can only take students up to point where the classes are full.  We would love to take more students, but that would mean we need more instructors - if you are interested in becoming an instructor please let us know by emailing Helen, the club covers the cost of the courses.

A new ski season is almost here!

Due to the chilly weather, we will have to cancel our first ski lesson of the season.

The high is Peter Lougheed Provincial Park is -21C tomorrow so it will be colder in the morning.

Our official club cut off is -20C with wind chill.

Hopefully, next week's lesson will have better weather.

Looking forward to skiing with the Bow Waters Jackrabbits soon.

Registration is now closed!

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was a big success. Special thanks to John for making this a licensed event.

The kids had a great time in the park and the food was delicious. Many people would like recipes for the fantastic food from this event.

Please post your delicious recipes here. We will collect them and email them out to everyone.

Thank you!

2013 Lake Louise Loppet

Great fun was had by the 56 BWJR members that attended this year's Lake Louise Loppet and tour the day before.  The tour the day before was a bit warm, but it was downhill most of the way, which made for a nice cruise through the trees.  It was awesome to ski right up to the hostel doors and see the kids already making a snow fort.

Thanks to the dinner organizers and volunteers that helped buy, cook, set-up, and clean-up!  I think everyone had a great time.

The weather for the race was perfect - new snow and -5C (a blue/violet kind of day).  The roads on the otherhand were terrible, and I hope everyone made it home safely.

I created a gallery of the few pictures and videos that I had.  If you have more please drop me an email and I can direct you to a google drive folder for you to upload them to me (Ian).

Family Ski Tour (day before Loppet) - Saturday 2pm

A fun ski down from Lake Louise to the Hostel.  Everyone can do it and there are no hard uphills.

Meet Ian and Sarah at the Chateau Lake Louise parking lot at 2:00pm (NOT the down hill ski resort area) and ski down to the hostel in time for dinner.
It is a nice 5 km downhill and some people (i.e. Dads) can shuttle back up the hill to pick up the cars.

Here is the description:
Tramline: 4.8 km one way, 195 m elevation downhill (map)
Double trackset
This trail runs from Lake Louise to the valley bottom at a steady 3% decline, following the old grade of the tramline that once connected the train station and the Chateau Lake Louise.

Photographers?

Are you an amateur or professional photographer?  We could use some great shots of this new group of kids.  If you would like to help out and visit a few classes taking pictures we would be very thankful.  Just let the instructor know who you are and what you are doing.

BTW, skiing at Peter Lougheed Visitor Center is on - we'll meet on the trail at the back of the parking lot.

First Day of Skiing - Dec 9 - Canmore Nordic Center

The season starts tomorrow with some crazy weather.  It looks like it will be cold in the morning (-15°C) but will warm up quickly (-4°C), so dress in layers.  Classes start at 10am.  You'll want to arrive early to get your passes and set up upstairs (Room B) in the day lodge.  Reminder to bring:

- snack and water

- extra mitts and face covering (balaclava, tubes, buffs, etc.) for the wind.

- "Poly is perfect, Wool is wonderful, but Cotton is cold"
